Dying Art...

I just wanted to take a moment to talk about hand-written notes. I recently came across a fourteen-year-old boy (from the United States) who did not know how to address an envelope for mailing. He literally had no idea how to go about sending a piece of mail. I was completely stunned and saddened. There is so much technology going on here, that the time of written cards and notes is dying away.

I think this falls on parents, teachers, and all adults to keep this past-time going with future generations. There is really nothing like holding a piece of paper in your hand that someone has written on. That person's marks are forever embedded on that paper... It has a special feeling that e-mail can just never have.
(Besides all that... getting mail is FUN!) :)

I admit that I am not the best at remembering birthdays... But, I can promise that my son will know how to send a thank you note and how to write a letter. (When he's old enough to write, that is...) :)

Thanks for listening... and send someone a card today!!!

I am WITH YOU! It is up to us to pass along the idea and thought behind handwritten love! Good for you!

One of my most treasured possessions are the cards and letters from my Mom who passed away 7 years ago. How sad it would be not to have these written remembrances.
I was in the post office yesterday and the young man (guessing around 17/18) in front of me was saying that he had never purchased stamps before and had no idea how much they cost. We take for granted that although this is a lesson taught in school, it is not always continued and the skill is lost.
I'm glad that you were able to pass along this important skill.

I am dumbfounded! I wrote on my blog in response. I just can't imagine not knowing the excitement of sending and receiving a hand-written personal communication between me and a beloved friend.

Great post and thanks for keeping handwritten notes alive! I'm guilty of not always sending a handwritten card for bdays, etc... but I do my best.

Loving the birdies!!!
I know what you mean about letter writing being a lost art and thank yous too... and I CAN believe (sad as it is) that MANY kids probably don't know how to address an envelope!!
